• Hello first and second grade families,

Welcome and welcome back! I am excited to work with you and your student in the 2023-24 school year. This is my third year teaching at Ann Arbor Open. My connection to this school and its community have never been stronger. I am excited to grow and learn alongside all of you this year!

Our first day of school is Monday, August 28th and starts with the first bell at 8:10. Our school day will end at 3:18. Students will enter and exit each day through our room’s (room 241) outside exit door. Our door will be clearly labeled with my name and our room number. Our classroom is directly facing the Red Oak parking lot.

We will spend the first few weeks of school engaging in the critical work of curating our classroom community. It is important to make sure that our classroom looks, feels, and operates in a way that benefits all of us as learners and as friends.

I encourage you to share anything specific about your student that you would like me to know (including but not limited to food allergies/pick up/drop off plans).

We will make time for individual snacks throughout the day, so you should send your student to school with a healthy snack if that is something they need/want. Additionally, please have your student bring a water bottle to school. Labeling your students' possessions will make them easier to identify.

A few more upcoming dates to keep in mind:

Curriculum night is Thursday, September 14. The time is yet to be determined, but I will let you know as soon as I am able. We will have no school on Friday, September 1st and the following Monday the 4th in observance of Labor Day.

I am looking forward to getting to know all of you this year. Please, don't hesitate to reach out to me directly with any questions you may have. See you soon!
